A few weeks ago Concealed Media had the opportunity to sit down with arguable the most successful power couple in the Carolinas, owners of the Underground Rich and Rich Girls brand JWhite and MarTeekia.
During their interview JWhite and MarTeekia talked about their relationship, how Underground Rich was started, the Rich Girls Museum, their time spent living in Los Angeles, and much more.
When discussing the vision for growing Underground Rich, JWhite said everything came together in 2016 shortly after he and MarTeekia got married. He said if it wasn’t for her ambition and drive Underground Rich wouldn’t be what it is today.
“MarTeekia became my partner in 2016 and she just seen a bigger vision that I didn’t really see,” he said.
The vision for the Rich Girls Museum started when the power couple were living in LA. MarTeekia said it started with the clothing lines Rich Girls Collection and Carolina Shyt, but they wanted a different way to sell their merchandise. She said after visiting a few museums on the West Coast they started brainstorming and that’s when they decided to bring their vision alive here in NC.
“We wanted a different way to sell clothes. Different from everybody else with the online boutiques, or just having a regular store,” MarTeekia said. “We visited a few museums in LA that didn’t last long… so I said you know what, we have an empty space next to the studio, we’re going to move back to North Carolina and open up our own and we’re going to be open all year, give everyone a chance to come so we did that.”
In their first year in business the Rich Girls Museum made $1 million and is still was the biggest attractions in the Triad. And Underground Rich Studios is one of the most sought after studios in NC.
